Have you ever do something crazy in the past? Let’s Gne asks you: In the high school time, have you ever do something crazy followed your own Free Will?

Hihi, don’t mistake with a Free Will of old people, who are preparing for themselves the life last moment. ( it’s common action, but nowadays, American people write their own Free Will earlier. They don’t wait until 70’s, 80’s year old for having a Free Will)

If you were a good high school student and focused on the academy, how about the College and University times? As the adult’s beginning life, have you done an inappropriate thing when you reach 20 years old? For example, do a solo trip travel? It doesn’t sound like a crazy thing 😛

solo travel

Hmmm… for Gne, Gne doesn’t remember much since Gne is very rare to do a crazy thing. Gne usually stays in control and planing around. Even when Gne drinks alcohol at the University of my home country, Gne still stays in control: not drinking too much alcohol-> not get drunk-> not doing something crazy while drunk

As Gne moved to Seattle, Gne hasn’t been touch any alcohol yet. The reason is simple. Gne has to drive.

With Philosophy point of view, Gne is considered as a determinist. Gne doesn’t do any Free Will actions

However, on March 3rd, 2019, Gne did experience of someone’s Free Will.

Free Will definition

Free will is the ability to choose between different possible courses of action unimpeded.

Free will is closely linked to the concepts of responsibility, praise, guilt, sin, and other judgments which apply only to actions that are freely chosen. It is also connected with the concepts of advice, persuasion, deliberation, and prohibition. Traditionally, only actions that are freely willed are seen as deserving credit or blame. There are numerous different concerns about threats to the possibility of free will, varying by how exactly it is conceived, which is a matter of some debate.

According to Wikipedia

Free will is an uncaused cause. It cuts off the causal chains of nature and culture and has the person start fresh. He can choose between evil and good. Liberated from the shackles of prior causes and not being subject to chance, he makes a free choice.

Psychology Today

To Gne, Free will is the action or series action that free you out of social settings, and the context. That Free will action will out of your own imagination also completely blow out another person mind. Free will won’t bother to the social ethic, human rights, belief, etc. It’s free to do what you want without a second think about the result.

Determinism Philosophy term

A philosophical belief that everything in a person’s life is determined by forces beyond his control. The term comes from the Latin ‘determinare’

Astro Wiki

Determinism is the philosophical idea that all events, including moral choices, are determined completely by previously existing causes. Determinism is at times understood to preclude free will because it entails that humans cannot act otherwise than they do

Determinism often is taken to mean causal determinism, which in physics is known as cause-and-effect

All events whatsoever are to be understood as the necessary outcome of certain causes and so may be regarded as instances of laws.

Harvey, 1964, 69

Determinism is not just causality. Determinism goes far beyond causality, and certainly much farther than psychological science requires.

Determinism is a belief in the inevitability of causation. Everything that happens is the only possible thing that could happen. The chains and networks of causes are so powerful and inexorable that every outcome is inevitable. We are already locked into everything else that is going to happen in the entire future of the universe. If you knew all the causal principles and had enough information about the present, you could predict the future with 100% accuracy. The universe resembles a giant machine, grinding alone exactly as it must inevitably continue to do, following rigid rules. That is determinism.

To a determinist, there are no counterfactuals. Nothing that didn’t happen could possibly have happened. Everything that did happen was the only possible thing that could have happened at that point in time and space, given the causes.

By Roy F. Baumeister, current Eppes Eminent Professor of Psychology and head of the social psychology graduate program at Florida State University

As Free Will meets Determinism, it leads a collision

No matter what kind definition of both Free Will and Determinism, there is one thing for sure that Determinism does see Free Will as an opponent.

Under the Determinism philosophy, there are three smaller theologies which contrast with Free Will. Only one Compatibilism accept the Free Will in some situations.

Of these, the doctrine of Free will is the most pernicious…

It has become a cliché to say that virtually all humans believe in free will, indeed that they can’t help but believe in free will, which is in odd contraposition to the doctrine itself.

The doctrine of free will asks us to believe in a free-floating cause of a behavioral act, a cause without history, and more importantly, without a future

Psychology Today posted about the doctrine of Free Will by Joachim I Krueger Ph.D

Gne assumes it’s enough for theory about Free Will and Determinism. Now, Gne shares why Gne said when the personal Free Will meets Determinism, it leads to the collision.

Honestly, Gne was in a car accident on March 3rd, 2019. Gne self-compared myself as a determinist. And for another driver, it’s a Free Will.

Because of the driver Free Will, that car just hits Gne car without the context. That driver was free and that driver just did what she wants? Yes, Gne was in a collision with a female driver. And one more small thing, that female driver is the same ethic with Gne -.- It made Gne more confused and anger….

Here is what happened on that day. Before going to detail, Gne was sure that Gne had the rightness.

traffic light

Gne can say it very confident because It has the City Camera and the DOT camera. The location , where the collision took places, is right inside the intersection. It means the City camera has recorded everything.

As Gne wrote this post, Gne didn’t request the footage from both kind of cameras yet. After submitting my statement about what happened to the claim team, Gne will search deeper and request the footage from cameras. Gne knows it will cost some money, consume time and effort, but it’s the evidences that prove Gne does follow the Law and obey all the road rules. Gne doesn’t feel shame about my driving.

Everything starts on March 3rd 2019. Gne shared a little bit about that day activities.

After wake up about 8:30 AM in the morning, Gne watched my face and followed my face-care routine -> put all the dirty clothes into the washing machine -> while Gne was eating instant noodle with 4 small dim sums, Gne checked the washing machine because that day Gne put more clothes. Gne was worried when the washing machine spun, it might overload.

After, Gne was urged by my mom since she had attend an Vietnamese pagoda event at 10 AM. My mom asked we should leave home about 9:45 AM.

However, my mom and Gne was a little delayed because Gne was not sure about the washing machine. Gne stayed about 2,3 more minutes to check the washing machine spinning speed. Gne checked it would be okay when the machine reached the standard spinning rpm because Gne put more clothes than normal.

It took about 15 minutes from home to the Vietnamese pagoda. Gne still remembered the time because the moment my mom got out my car, it was 10:05 AM.

Next, Gne chose to go to the nearby Dollar Tree store for shopping. Gne planned Gne would buy a small baking tray and the aluminum wrap. The purpose was preparing to store food, not cake 🙂

My team leader would leave the current company in next week. The Friday March 8th would be my team leader last working day. He had been working for the current company for 20 years. He would move to Amazon company with the similar leader position. Therefore, my team members planned that we would have a small hotpot party before his leave.

After leaving the Dollar Tree, Gne drove back to my grandparent house. My mom asked me to delivery a few things for my grandmother.

Everything started after Gne left my grandmother about 10:40 AM.

Gne was following the normal driving routine from my grandmother house to our new house. Gne followed the Google map inquiry, but Gne didn’t use my phone since Gne had been driving that road routine 3 months so far. Gne remembered the road without looking the GPS.

WIth the Google Map help, Gne wrote down the exactly driving routine:

  • headed East on S Graham street toward 39th Ave S
  • -> made a right turn onto 39th Ave S
  • -> went straight a few blocks
  • -> made a right turn on S Holly Street
  • -> met the traffic lights here
  • -> completely stop and wait for the green signal.
  • After the green light, Gne made a left turn onto Martin Luther King Jr Way S South bound because my intention was using the Martin Luther King Jr Way S to go straightly the South Bound I-5

Gne was driving on the right lane, which is nearest the right curb.

Gne doesn’t know what is the number of that lane since it’s different from State to State. In California State, they count lane 1 is the farthest lane on the left side. Seattle, Washington would do the opposite.

Gne was slowing down because of a car in front of me. That car was signaling for a right turn to Ba Mien Seafood Market parking lot. Gne stopped in the safe distance and waited for that car completely turn.

At the same time, there was one more car. It was pulling out from the same parking lot with that car. The new car merged the traffic and went to the ‘LEFT TURN ONLY” lane. (the word is marked on the ground)

Gne saw that car completely stopped on that lane.

Gne didn’t move because of the red light on my lane.

As the red light turned green, Gne looked out and it was safe to go straight on my lane.

However, the Free Will delivered one lesson to Gne.

The car from the “LEFT TURN ONLY” lane MADE A RIGHT TURN.

The car crossed one lane-> crossed my lane-> and hit me in the front headlight and my left front fender.

Free Will taught a lesson

Of course, it was so abrupt and unexpected that Gne could not avoid the collision!

After the collision, both drivers didn’t call the polices-> Gne regretted about this now….

If Gne called the police, Gne would not be pushed in a disadvantage position when Gne claimed with my auto insurance….

Gne asked another driver to exchange information plus the insurance car.

The driver of the car hit me made an excuse. The driver said she forgot the insurance card at home.

Wow really? According to the new law of Seattle city, you can not drive a car without auto insurance. When you register the car for personal use or business, auto insurance needs to be attached while register.

Gne doesn’t share detail the exchange part….it would violent that driver privacy.

After the collision, Gne came back to the scene and asked my mom to record an illustration video.

Disclaimer for this whole post

First, Gne doesn’t share very detail about what happened.

Above is just a short version. Gne does write a different version with much detail about what happened to my auto insurer. -> As Gne shares in here, a third party can use that information to against Gne. The auto insurer of that driver could use this post as evidence before the court. Thus, Gne admits that there is a difference between this blog post and my statement to my auto insurer. The reason is simple. This post is on my personal blog. It’s a different purpose with my statement to my auto insurer and that driver’s insurer.

Second, what Gne shares here is true based on my memory and my knowledge.

Third, as Gne said above. Gne has a confidence that Gne doesn’t have a fault.

There are two kind of cameras which record about what happen.

  • One kind of camera is from Seattle city. This camera is located right on the S Myrtle Street and MLK Jr. S. -> the camera is right above the location where the collision happens.
  • Another traffic camera is the DOT camera. It’s in the intersection MLK Jr. S and S Othello, near Bank Of America branch.

Fourth, all the images Gne uses in this post is CC0. Gne checks about the images/photo copyright before put it here.

Fifth, remind readers again. Gne has a protection on my blog. -> it’s a warning in advance if you “steal”, “borrow idea”, or do anything kind of “inappropriate actions”-> you would meet a problem!

Gne is trying to protect myself first!
